Looking for a niche programme in Madagascar? We sort out all the local connections you need

Specialised tourism is becoming more popular. Many travellers combine their passion or hobby with a wonderful holiday destination. Think diving, kiteboarding, sailing, birdwatching or photography.

Often a specialised tour operator / travel agent is the one who designs the core programme. But some customers ask you to arrange their transportaccommodation and any extra holiday days in Madagascar before or after their specialised trip yourself. Does that sound familiar?

Rest assured that you can count on us for these extra connections. Because local services are where we excel.

That leaves you (or the partner you’re working with) free to focus entirely on the niche aspect of the trip, while we provide a complete service at the destination.

(Are you thinking, “actually I do have a query from some) niche tourism customers, and I’d like to find out as soon as possible how Madafocus can assist me?” Book your online meeting with Frank now!)

A few examples:
  • Your travellers are coming to Madagascar for a diving holiday, but they are still looking for transport to and from the airport.
  • Madafocus arranges the transfers for an stress-free start and end to the holiday.
  • Your kiteboarding customers want to stay near the most beautiful beaches in Diego Suarez, but not at the bigger tourist hotels. Our team will reserve small, charming lodges that are perfect for your customers’ kiteboarding adventure.
  • Your customers have just finished a sailing holiday and want to spend five days exploring a bit more of Madagascar.
We can put a mini-road trip together, including transport, overnight accommodation and local guides.

In a nutshell, whether you need transport only, a combination with accommodation or a few extra days exploring Madagascar: we can arrange it for you and your customer.

What kinds of niche tourism are popular in Madagascar?
  1. Sailing trips around Nosy Be

For sailors, the Nosy Be archipelago in north-western Madagascar is an absolute paradise. You will sail along breathtaking coastlines, with plenty of small yacht harbours or marinas where you can drop anchor. Both catamarans and sailing boats are available, with and without a crew.

  2. Kiteboarding around Diego Suarez

Madagascar is a dream for adventurous kiteboarders looking for unspoiled bays and ideal winds. In fact, Sakalava Bay is world famous for kiteboarding.

Especially around Diego Suarez in the north, there are stiff breezes from May to October (high season). The kiteboarding spots are still pure and unspoiled, without mass tourism or luxury resorts, which makes these trips an exclusive experience.

  3. Diving to colourful reefs

Madagascar has a treasure trove of colourful reefs and magnificent diving locations. In particular, the Nosy Be archipelago and the south-western coastal area between Tuléar and Morondava are absolute gems. Divers here discover underwater worlds full of life, far from the busy resorts.

  4. Spotting unique birds

85% of Madagascar’s 285 bird species are found nowhere else in the world. That makes our red island a top destination for birdwatchers. Specialised guides take you to see unique species in national parks and rainforests. The period just before the rainy season is ideal, because it is when birds display their most beautiful plumage. This is an exclusive experience, far outside the traditional tourist season.

  5. Photography: the perfect picture

Madagascar is pure gold for photographers. Think photogenic architecture, colourful portraits and expansive vistas with fluffy clouds stretching as far as the eye can see.

Our island is unique for nature photography too: wild animals often appear right in front of your lens. That’s an adventure in itself.

  6. Family holiday: eye to eye with the lemur

The film Madagascar has certainly hit its mark. It is inspiring many families to come and explore the island. Here at Madafocus, we offer tailor-made family holidays. Families can rely on child-friendly accommodation and adventurous activities that everyone will enjoy. In the accessible national parks, you are sure to meet King Julien, the leader of the ring-tailed lemurs in the famous film.
